Missouri working families are under attack. There is an effort to make Missouri a so-called "Right to Work" state. The misleadingly labeled “Right to Work” legislation does nothing to create good jobs, nor does it provide “rights” or “freedom” to work. In reality, so-called "Right to Work" provides LESS – less wages, less benefits, lower living standards and a lack of job security -- for Missouri’s working families. Plain and simple, so-called "Right to Work" is WRONG for Missouri. Missourians are joining together to protect working class families and making it clear that these attacks on the middle class will not go unanswered. Join us in the fight to protect Missouri families. As Martin Luther King, Jr. stated in 1961, “In our glorious fight for civil rights, we must guard against being fooled by false slogans, such as ‘right to work.’ It is a law to rob us of our civil rights and job rights. Its purpose is to destroy labor unions and the freedom of collective bargaining by which unions have improved wages and working conditions of everyone… Wherever these laws have been passed, wages are lower, job opportunities are fewer and there are no civil rights. We do not intend to let them do this to us. We demand this fraud be stopped. Our weapon is our vote.” Protect the Prevailing Wage in Missouri Protect MO Families is also committed to defending Missouri’s Prevailing Wage. In 2016, eight bills were filled in the Missouri Legislature weakening or repealing the Prevailing Wage. Protect MO Families is monitoring these bills in the Legislature. We’ll ask our supporters to take action to defend the Prevailing Wage when the time is right. WHAT ARE PREVAILING WAGE LAWS? Missouri’s Prevailing Wage laws ensure that ALL skilled workers are paid fairly, so employers can’t undercut them and drive wages down, hurting our economy. They ensure our schools and roads are built safely, by qualified and skilled workers, not by out-of-state companies or undocumented workers. Missouri's Prevailing Wage law applies to all public works projects constructed on behalf of state and local public bodies. It establishes a minimum wage rate that must be paid to workers on such projects in Missouri, such as bridges, roads, schools, and government buildings. Prevailing Wage laws ensure our schools and roads are built safely, by qualified and skilled workers, not by out-of-state companies trying to undercut our communities. You name it, Missouri has been ground zero for anti-worker attacks. By standing together… we have defeated every single bad piece of legislation.
